Calgary
Take at least two days to explore Calgary, a modern city where you can enjoy a
rich Olympic history and try some hands-on sports yourself. Buffets of music, dining, shopping, galleries,
museums and parks are waiting for you to discover them.
The Calgary Tower is a historic landmark leaving you with the city below your feet. The observation deck at
160 metres (525 ft.) gives you a 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding areas. One of the main attractions
the tower boasts is the specially constructed glass floor where you can look straight down to the traffic below.
While at the top, enjoy dinner at the city’s highest restaurant, as you witness the vast views of the evening turn
into the magic of night.
Only five minutes away, you can take a casual stroll over to the
Olympic Plaza Cultural District, where cultural and arts events are frequently celebrated. Throughout the
winter periods, the ice rink is available for skating.
Should you still have some energy and feel like topping the night off with something exciting, head on over to
Macleod Trail at the edge of the Calgary Stampede grounds. Here you will find few casinos, then head south to
Ranchman’s, the city’s largest country dance-hall which is the Official Hospitality Location of the Canadian
Professional Rodeo Association.
The following day you can take a walking tour along Stephen Avenue Walk and stroll right into McNally Robson, a
central bookstore where you can obtain Historic Walks of Calgary by local author Harry M. Sanders.
If you’re feeling a little hungry, there are more than 200 restaurants downtown from which to
choose.
Try sampling nearby Chinatown – The Chinese Cultural Centre at 197 1 St. SW is modelled on the Temple of Heaven
in Beijing, and paintings include more than 560 dragons. Keep an eye out for the Silver Dragon restaurant at 106 3
Ave. SE as it is where ginger beef was introduced, making Calgary a ginger beef hot spot for those with the
desire.
